Episode 4

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 by Admin

Hello Friends,

Just a quick note to let you know about our Made by Hand episode tonight – Im very excited to bring you this episode with some fascinating stories and work by terrific Melbourne Makers!
Tonight we feature the amazing work of Will Matthysen, and his architectural, intricate, handmade Clocks. This work is technically fascinating and visually stunning. Will’s use and combination of different woods and lines give a wonderful sculptural impact and a refined elegance to his work. Will is also harnesses historical techniques and embraces new technology within his work, making his Clocks a fascinating statement about craft in 2011.
We take a visit at the CAE and speak with Susie Bate about the courses on offer, how to enrol and why adult education is so important. This institution has been with us for many years and continues to move and change and adapt with the craft landscape. It is a progressive and responsive organisation that is a great resource for craft makers.
Then we take a lovely walk on the Yarra River and visit Angel – the stunning 10ft sculpture that is the guardian Angel of Birrarung Marr. We meet with her creator Deb Halpern and talk about the making of Angel and her place with us today. It was a real thrill to meet with Deb and hear about this fascinating journey.
Im thrilled with Episode 4 and cant wait to share it with you. It has vibrant craft, fascinating people, clever design and beautiful materials. Our stories tonight also have aspects that will resonate with all artists and makers and anyone who has contemplated an ambitious project! I hope you might have an opportunity to take a look and enjoy this episode.
Thank you for your encouragement and support!
Kind Regards,
Tracey Wightman

After a fantastic response and terrific feedback for Episode 1 of Made by Hand, I am thrilled to broadcast Episode 2 tonight at 8:30 on C31, and at 9:00pm on the Video Gallery of our website.

Tonight’s episode features stories on a wonderful and very original contemporary quilter, Gloria Loughman, an informative piece about Craft Victoria – a great resource and progressive organisation for all craft makers- and a behind the scenes visit with Wilkins & Kent, who make stunning furniture and are great supporters of local craft.

Its an informative and colourful episode and I hope you might take a look and enjoy these Melbourne stories about Melbourne Craft and Melbourne Makers.

Many thanks again, & Kind Regards,
